These last few years of the GT I think are going to end up as a modern classic. The refresh a couple of years ago was simply fantastic. What went wrong with the ST? I'm picking one up tomorrow so I don't like hearing about issues.

That's a beauty. Congrats! I had a red '05 but they didn't offer that blue back then otherwise I would have been all over it.

No more ST? What happened to it?

Also how many cars have you gone through in the last year? Didn't you have a BRZ, then switch to a Forester, then an ST before this?

The Sync/MyFord Touch module had failed causing a parasitic drain on the battery. I was getting up at 4AM every morning to find someone to give me a jump so I could make it to 6am Formation on time. I called Ford, they gave me the normal send engineers response, I told them I didn't want the car anymore and they offered me a huge discount on whatever I wanted. Almost got the Fiesta ST but I am way to tall.

And 4 this year
FR-S full STX prep ( again way to tall to daily this, I miss it everyday though)
Forester XT... CVT need I say more

Focus ST see above

and now the Stang

I does not seem to be a common problem with the ST, actually I think I am one of a kind of this.

It's really bad when it drains the battery so quickly like what happened to you.

Also bad if it's a slow drain that you don't know about. I once went on vacation and came back to a dead car. Didn't know what was causing the drain. Never found out because the service center couldn't diagnose it and it was a leased car that I later turned in.

Ever since then I'm scared to go on vacation no matter what car I have. I haven't gone on a long vacation since that time. If I do I'll probably disconnect the battery in at least one of my cars to ensure I have a working car when I get home.

Yeah it's a pretty traumatizing experience, don't know that I could ever have another touchscreen nav system in a car. That sucks, I can understand your reluctance but disconnecting the battery should help

I've had two cars with touchscreens and never had a problem. In my family we've had a few others including a 2001 Acura that's been going strong for 10 years, so I wouldn't count them out.

That being said it sucks you were having issues, couldn't they have just swapped out some components to fix it had you wanted to keep it?

They did, it blew again. Very unique issue I guess. And I understand that, but I had a 09 WRX go boom, subaru took care of me and gave 11 WRX to replace it. I could not trust the damn thing, ever rattle and squeak had me pulling over looking for issues

The car I had the issue with didn't even have a touchscreen nav. It had a regular nav. There are so many things that can drain batteries now!

I did have the touchscreen nav unit go bad in my 911 a few months ago. First it started wigging out. Eventually it died and drained the battery. Luckily it was in my garage when it wouldn't start and I had another car. And I was still a few thousand miles under 50,000 so I had warranty coverage. Porsche sent a flat bed to pick it up.

Yeah, supportive seats are critical in racing. I did a teen car control class in my dad's old Protege5, and the supportive seats were a big help with keeping myself in place

My '80 Cobra has factory option Recaros, and when they were re-upholstered the foam wasn't bolstered enough, and so I do slide a bit, but it isn't too bad. My dad has some 80s-era aftermarket Recaro seats that are probably the best seats I've ever been in, with tight bolstering and good foam. I could road trip that car all day.

I had them in my ST, actually they were probably the biggest selling point for the ST. And my STX build FR-S had a single racing seat on the drivers side (no adjustments, just straight bucket). The FR-S was fun, I wouldn't move and my co-drives would be all over the place

LOL at the passengers being flung around. I have the same situation in my mustang, only the problem is the right side slider doesn't lock on the passenger seat, scaring them shitless the first time I brake hard or take a corner fast. Karma comes back around to me though as the driver's seat is missing a mounting bolt (stud broke off) and the seat back doesn't lock.

Keeps life interesting and on-edge, lol.

Their service is pretty good. The only problem is that they have sold more cars than they have the capacity to service. So if you have a Porsche as your daily driver it can be kind of a bummer because it can take a while to get your car back. But they do usually give you cool Porsche loaner cars. Sometimes they are out of them though and give you an Enterprise rental.

I prefer using the Google Maps app too for nav. It's by far the most accurate mapping app I've used. And it has the real time traffic info. The only time I use the car's navigation is if the destination is far and has a lot of turns/freeway changes. In that case it can be hard to use your phone.

The main benefit of the large-screen nav/radio units to me is the better interface for the radio. I like sat radio and it's nice to have a big integrated display to operate it. The Porsche head unit is pretty good for it. Changing categories and stations is pretty easy. And you can see info such as the score of the game you're listening to on the screen.

I'm a bit scared of the parasitic drain myself. I don't even leave my phone's adapter plugged in at gas stations...In theory though, wouldn't pulling the fuse for the center console prevented the drain, at least as a short term option?

Only car I had go flat was my bosses SL when he was away. Jumping that car was an absolute nightmare, but luckily it's since gotten a new battery and hasn't needed a jump so far.

The problem is the same fuse controls the locks, and HVAC. The locks were touch based and only the drivers side had an old school key slot, the fuse box was under the glovebox and all but inaccessible from the drivers side I would have to leave the car unlocked
